Matt Molloy, John Carty & Arty McGlynn
Matt Molloy and John Carty explore the rich and varied tapestry of the fiddle and flute tradition, the quintessential Sligo style musical combination. Both Matt and John are recipients of the prestigious TG4 Traditional Musician of the Year Award.
From Ballaghadereen, County Roscommon, Matt Molloy is regarded as the greatest exponent of traditional flute playing alive, a member of the Chieftains for more than two decades; he was also a founder member of the legendary Bothy Band and had a spell in the second coming of Planxty. Matt has released several highly acclaimed solo albums.
London born, John Carty returned to his Roscommon roots near Boyle. He has recorded three solo fiddle albums, two banjo CDs, four group albums and a collection of duets with Matt Molloy. A member of At the Racket and Patrick Street.
They are joined by Arty McGlynn, whose subtle guitar playing is the perfect accompaniment to this unique duet. He played with Planxty, Patrick Street, De Danann and the Van Morrison Band, and has recorded and played with Christy Moore, Paul Brady, Donal Lunny, Liam O'Flynn, the Chieftains and most recently in Tim O’Brien’s The Crossing.
