Bio - Lau
What Lau have achieved, in so few years, is staggering. The warmth and excitement they generate with each new release, and at every gig, has culminated in armfuls of plaudits, including three consecutive years of being crowned 'Best Group' at the BBC Folk Awards.
Lau's creativity transcends all the music they hold dear, creating a cutting edge sound which extends far beyond the roots scene. They are not married to any staid concept of folk or any other music, with seemingly telepathic musical communication pushing their compositions and each other to new heights, creating the perfect foil for Kris's poignant vocal numbers and stage banter.
Their strength partly lies in the pool of knowledge they draw on, each member of the trio took a stellar musical career into the group and this wealth of experience and creativity is immediately evident in Lau’s music.
Award-winning fiddler and composer, Aidan O'Rourke hails from the Scottish coastal town of Oban. A founder member of Blazin’ Fiddles, He has worked with, amongst many, jazz artist Andy Sheppard, Gaelic singer Alyth McCormack, Eddi Reader and in KAN. An accomplished musician, singer and guitarist, Kris Drever grew up on Orkney and is a well loved performer in his own right in Scotland and throughout the UK. Whereas Martin Green is a true maverick from Cambridge, who is in constant demand for his accordion playing and has toured in Eliza Carthy, Joan Baez and Linda Thompson’s bands.
